Voodoos top goal scorer inks with Battalion

"I think his almost a goal a game pace in the NOJHL speaks for itself. It's great to see all his hard work pay off."

Powassan Voodoos leading goal scorer Andy Baker signed an OHL contract with the North Bay Battalion on Thursday and played his first OHL game Thursday night in a Battalion 5-4 shootout win over the Oshawa Generals.

Baker, a 14th round pick in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection, leads the Voodoos in goal scoring with 15 goals and 5 assists for 20 points in 16 games this season with the affiliate team of the Battalion.

The Battalion showed some faith in the Voodoos forward as he was thrown into the fire as the third shooter in the shootout Thursday night where he was stopped on a poke check by Generals netminder Jeremy Brodeur.

"Andy had a great camp in September for the Battalion," noted Voodoos Head Coach Scott Wray about Baker who played on an all-NOJHL line with Bradley Chenier and former Voodoo Daniel Walker in his OHL debut.

"Once he got sent down he has worked extremely hard to get to the next level and get noticed. I think his almost a goal a game pace in the NOJHL speaks for itself. It's great to see all his hard work pay off."

Baker, a Port Carling native, will be back in the Voodoos lineup on Friday night as they host the Timmins Rock.  Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Powassan Sportsplex.
