The Powassan Voodoos unbeaten streak at home ended as the Rayside-Balfour Canadians stunned the Voodoos faithful taking a 6-1 lead after 20 minutes only to see the Voodoos battle back in a 9-6 barnburner.

Ryan Erickson had three goals and Battalion prospect Bradley Chenier had a pair for the visiting Barons who only iced 13 skaters.

"I'm not happy at all about their first period," said Coach Scott Wray who had to call a time out before the first period wrapped up.

"But what I'm proud about is how they found a way to make it into a hockey game. And I could sit here and talk about the negative, but we're not going to because I'm proud of the way our team scratched and clawed back into that game."

"This team kind of has our number this year," admitted Jake Staples who is the captain for the Voodoos.

"They've beaten us twice and we've only lost three games all year. So we just have to keep pushing, playing hard in practice and we just have to work on our first period and be ready. Because if we choose to start at the second period, than its a whole new game."

Eric Champagne, Tyler Gervais-Rolfe, Daniel Walker, Daniel Golba, Aaron Dart and Jesse Anderson scored for the Voodoos who fall to 19-3 on the season.

The Voodoos, who were down 7-3 after the second period, fought back with three straight third period goals in less than two minutes to make it 7-6 with sill over 12 minutes left in the period.

However, Ryan Erickson put home his hat trick goal at 13:17 to subdue the Voodoos momentum.

Kyle Fransen iced it for the Canadians with an empty netter at 17:58 to complete the high scoring affair.

Voodoos all-star netminder Garrett Forrest pulled himself late in the first period and was replaced by affiliate goalie and Powassan native Brendan Dale from the North Bay Midget AAA Trappers.

Forrest, who finished with 27 saves in the loss, came back to start the second period.

The Voodoos next action is Saturday night when they travel to French River to take on the Rapids.
