The Powassan Voodoos stayed close to home by signing defenceman Eric Mondoux from the OHL bronze medal-winning North Bay Midget AAA Trappers.

The North Bay product netted four goals along with 23 assists for 27 points in 36 games with the Trappers last season.

"I'm really grateful and excited to be part of the Powassan Voodoos organization," stated Mondoux.

"The coaches and the staff are high-end and I'm also able to start my junior career in my hometown."

Chris Dawson, Voodoos General Manager, says Mondoux is a welcome addition to the Voodoos blueline.

"We saw Mondoux a lot last season and he took his game to the next level when he played affiliate games against us last season with the French River Rapids," noted Dawson.

Mondoux, who was a free agent invite to the Battalion Orientation Camp this past spring,  hopes to bring a solid offensive and defensive game to the Powassan Sportsplex this season.

Voodoos add big forward

The Voodoos also inked 2001 birth year forward Tyler Gilberds recently.

The 6'2" forward played minor midget last season for Beau Moyer's Vaughan Kings where he accumulated 12 goals and 20 assists for 32 points in 33 GTHL regular season games.

"Gilberds is a solid two-way forward that will keep the opposition on their toes," stated Moyer about the 2017 fifth round pick of the Ottawa 67's.

" At 6'2 he brings a big body presence to our lineup. As a player, he's familiar with me and my style of coaching and I believe it's a great fit for his development in his hopes of playing in the OHL."

The Voodoos also shipped veteran forward Gabriel Rheault to the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners for a development fee on Sunday.

Gilberds and Mondoux will be in Powassan on Thursday for the start of the Voodoos main camp at the Powassan Sportsplex.
