VIDEO: NDA senior basketball: Trojans top Chippewa in tight game 3

The West Ferris Trojans overcame a game 2 loss on their home court and a raucous standing-room-only crowd at Chippewa in the series-clinching win to escape with NDA senior hoops glory

In the 2023-24 NDA senior boys' basketball championship, the home court meant nothing when it came to the results.

The West Ferris Trojans prevailed 2-1 in the best-of-three final series after a 54-51 win on Tuesday, defeating Chippewa twice in their home gym in the process. Chippewa showed its mettle by shocking the Trojans at West Ferris last Thursday in setting the stage for the winner-takes-all third game.

Head coach Dan Coutu's Trojans overcame both that loss on their home court and a raucous standing-room-only crowd at Chippewa in the series-clinching win to escape with NDA senior hoops glory.

Wes Buell sizzled for the Trojans, scoring 23 points to lead all players. Nick Corbeil contributed 16 to go along with some frenetic defence while game one hero Yannick Madigan had 12.

The Chippewa cagers faced relentless full-court pressure by the Trojans but managed to regroup and tie the game with minutes to go. Chippewa was paced by Scott Cockburn's 15 points and Holden Tuckett's 14.

This completes a sweep of the NDA boys' basketball titles for West Ferris as the juniors won two straight versus the Algonquin Barons last week.

Both West Ferris and Chippewa advance to compete at NOSSA 'AA/AAA' in Sudbury later this week.
