Under 13 Blizzard win bronze at home

NORTH BAY, ON - The North Bay Youth Volleyball Club hosted 8 teams in the Under 13 Girls Challenge Cup over the weekend in North Bay.


NORTH BAY, ON - The North Bay Youth Volleyball Club hosted 8 teams in the Under 13 Girls Challenge Cup over the weekend in North Bay. The host team Blizzard won bronze to add along with the two silver medals that they had capture in as many tournaments.

In pool play the Blizzard finished second in Pool "B" with a split win over the Aurora Storm Hurricanes (21-25, 26-24), and 2-0 sweeps over the Selects 97 (25-22, 25-9) and York Spartans (28-26, 25-13). The Blizzards advanced to the quarter-finals and were able to defeat the Etobicoke Titans Blues 2-0 (30-28, 25-21).

In the semi-final game the Blizzard's were in tough with the Markham Stingers who were able to win the match 2-0 (25-14, 25-23) and send the girls to the bronze medal game. The Blizzard's were able to rebound and win the bronze medal game over the York Spartans 3-1 (18-25, 25-18, 15-10).

"The girls played extremely well but we still have work to do," said co-coach Laura Hudson. "We improved throughout the tournament but our communication broke down and the girls know that we need to improve on this in order to reach our goal"

The 13U girls will know focus their time on getting ready for the Ontario Championships at Rim Park in Waterloo, ON on April 16th.

U 15's place 4th in Ottawa

The Under 15 girls placed 4th out 11 teams in Ottawa over the weekend in the Challenge Cup Championship East. The girls came up short in the bronze medal game who they were defeated 2-0 by the Durham Attack.

The Blizzard's finished second in Pool "C" play and advanced to the quarter-finals where they were able to sweep the Aurora Storm Blast 2-0 (25-16, 25-17) to advance to the semi-finals.

In the semi-finals the Blizzard's were defeated by DRVC 2-0 (25-12, 25-18) and had to settle for the bronze medal game.

"The girls battled extremely hard all day," said coach Mike Lee.

"They girls had to fight adversity but were able to beat some really talented teams. They left it all out on the floor and that's all you can ask for."

The Blizzard's will now prepare for the 15U Bugarski Cup on February 27th. The Blizzard's will be the host team in North Bay on February 27th.
