In the 85 kilo class the battle for the medals came down to Norsemen Glenn Ogeltree, Kevin Amorin of the Mississauga Sabaria Club, and Paul Taylor of the GTA team. Following the snatch portion of the contest Taylor led with a mark of 97 kilos followed by Amorin at 96 and Ogeltree at 93. After lots of jockeying by the coaches the best lifts for each in the clean and jerk were- Taylor 110, Amorin 120 and Ogeltree 124. The final placings and totals were – Ogeltree 217, Amorin 216 and Taylor 207.

Later on, in the 94 kilo division, North Bay’s Richard Found was runner–up to former Norsemen Buck Ramsay. Found lifted 102 kilos in the snatch and 130 kilos in the clean and jerk. Ramsay meanwhile put on a weightlifting clinic, finishing with 133 in the snatch and 170 kilos in the clean and jerk. Ramsay, who studies at the University of Toronto, and lifts for the Sabaria Club of Mississauga, was named the contest’s best lifter by formula.

The North Bay Norsemen/Valkyries will next see action when they host the fifth annual Champlain Cup on Saturday, October 15th at the YMCA.
