Seamus O’Donoughue, one of Apollo’s competitive coaches and a National athlete in 2 disciplines, competed on Friday night in Newmarket at Pulsar’s Gymnastics in the Men’s 3rd Provincial Qualifying meet.

O’Donoughue had a good meet, improving his overall score and posting some new personal bests on a few of the 6 events. O’Donoughue had an excellent vault and finished 5th on that event. He will make even more changes to his routines before competing at the Provincial Championships being held in Oakville in April.

Saturday morning saw Cameron Kraft and Noah Swain compete in the Men’s Provincial Level 1 category in the ages 10-12 section. Kraft had an excellent vault; scoring a 9.0 on it and also finished seventh place on pommel horse.

Swain had a seventh placing on the parallel bars but was most-impressive on rings, where he finished well above the other boys placing first and receiving a gold medal for his efforts.

In the second flight of the day, Garrett McParland competed in the under 10 category of the same level. Garrett scored an impressive 9.4 on vault, placing him in 5th position.

Sunday morning brought about the Level 3 competition. Apollo had two athletes competing; Quinlan McParland in the 10-12 age category and Nick Entwistle in the 13+ age group.
McParland's best event was fllor, where he scored an 8.5 and finished 8th in his group.

Entwistle competed a brand new Tsukahara vault, where he hits the vault horse in a round-off position and then pushes from his hands and performs a 1 and a half back flip. Entwistle placed sixth on vault as well as parallel bars. Entwistle’s best event was high bar, where he finished in first place on the podium with a score of 8.8.

A number of the boys will attend the Provincial Championships taking place in early April in Oakville.
