Turcotte ejected but Skyhawks still win

The Skyhawks gave up a pair of two goal leads and lost their coach early in the game but that didn’t stop the Skyhawks from eking out a 5-4 overtime victory over the Abitibi Eskimos in Iroquois Falls Wednesday night.
The Skyhawks gave up a pair of two goal leads and lost their coach early in the game but that didn’t stop the Skyhawks from eking out a 5-4 overtime victory over the Abitibi Eskimos in Iroquois Falls Wednesday night.

Garrett Trainor scored the game winner for the Skyhawks in the extra frame.

AJ Shiverdecker scored twice in regulation while Jordan Carroll and Zack Clarke rounded out the scoring for the Skyhawks in the road win.
The Skyhawks head coach watched the majority of the game from the stands as he was given a bench minor and a game misconduct four minutes in after he protested a questionable hit that left forward Scott Britton unconscious on the ice – no call was made by referee Eric Ouellette.

The lack of a call wasn’t the only thing that frustrated Turcotte as he says the official handed out a checking from behind penalty along with a game misconduct to Skyhawks forward Trent Lizee just before Britton was laid out – a hit Turcotte felt wasn’t nearly as bad as the one that injured his player.

“I was doing it for protection of my players,” Turcotte said about voicing his displeasure to the officials.

“Two calls like that is a bad start to the game," added Turcotte who is going to send a tape to the league showing the hit on Britton which will likely keep him out of the lineup for at least two weeks.

Turcotte was pleased with the effort again on the road by his club despite the call that left the Skyhawks to play with 10 forwards the rest of the night.

The Skyhawks next action is Sunday night when they host the Sudbury Jr. Wolves.
