Saturday night the West Ferris arena saw a heavyweight battle when the Nickel City Sons stepped onto the ice to face the North Bay Trappers. Both teams came out hitting hard, and maintained the physical play that ended with the Trappers barely sliding by the Sons to take the game 5-4.

"We try to come out hard every game, especially in our rink. We've got some guys that like to go out there and throw the body around and sometimes it creates a bit of emotion for the other guys; it's good to get into the game that way," said Trappers Head Coach Robin Boucher.

Trappers forward Mitchell Davis found the back of the net when he fired the puck past Son's goaltender Scott Patterson on North Bay's first shot of the game.

The third period saw the Trappers take a 4-3 lead on a powerplay goal scored by Liam Berti.

But, that wasn't the last of Berti. After the Sons tied the game 4-4 with a little over three minutes to go, Berti came flying down the left wing and sent the puck high blocker side to give the Trappers the win with 30 seconds remaining.

"It was a great effort, he got the the puck out to the blue line. It started on the face-off and he battled through thier defence. What a play he made to get it out of the zone; to break free and made a perfect shot to get us the winning goal," Boucher said.

Andrew Burke and Roch Pellerin also scored for the Trappers in the win. Nick Huard contributed with three assists.

Sudbury comes to town to take on the Trappers, Sunday at 1:20 p.m. at the West Ferris arena.
