The North Bay Trappers had something to prove as their home and home series against the Nickel City Sons concluded at the West Ferris Arena Sunday afternoon. The third place Trappers lost to the Sons 6-5 at the Balfour Arena in Chelmsford on Saturday.

The Sons got off to a quick start scoring the first goal on a power play in the opening minutes of the game. The Trappers Nick Huard tied the game at the thirteen minute mark, but the Sons’ Joel Gagnon replied soon after later to give the visitors a two, one lead at the break.

In the second period, North Bay took control of the game as Huard potted his second of the match to nod things up once again. Then the Trappers leading point getter, Mitchell Davis, scored his first of two on the afternoon to give the home squad their first lead of the game.

Nickel City made things interesting in the third tying the game twice. But the score dead locked at four, Darnell Koosees proved to be the game hero as he banged in the game winner with five minutes remaining.

The Trappers weren’t done as they end this scoring affair in style thanks to a break-a-way marker by Cory Leboeuf.

Head Coach Robin Boucher was pleased with the 6-4 victory on home ice.

“It’s a great win, I mean the guys worked hard, everyone worked together, we got some good scoring from guys that usually don’t do it, so it was a great team effort,” Boucher said after the game.

The Trappers next game is at home next Saturday against the Sault Ste. Marie North Stars.
