Trappers defeat Capitals (new)

North Bay Trappers improved to 5-2 in the GNML Saturday with a 5-2 victory over Sudbury Nickel Capitals at the West Ferris Arena. The Trappers are currently in second place with 10 points going into today’s (Sunday) action.

The Trappers are currently in second place with 10 points going into today’s (Sunday) action. The league-leading Sault Ste. Marie North Stars are in New Liskeard to play the Cubs this afternoon. The Stars have 11 points.

Lance McMahon scored two goals for the Trappers and leads the points race with nine goals and five assists for 14 points.

Philippe Bouffard, Josh McCully and Martin Lauzon had the other goals. Lauzon’s goal was scored into an empty net as the Capitals pulled their goaltender in a bid to get back in the game.

Gerry Morin and Brandon Amirault replied for the Capitals.

Andre Laperriere stopped 30 of 32 shots for the Trappers/ Justin Longchamps was in goal for the Capitals and stopped 32 of 37.

The Trappers have a busy Thanksgiving weekend coming up. Friday night, they are in New Liskeard for an 8 p.m. game against the Cubs.

Saturday and Sunday at the WFA, the North Stars are in town to battle the Trappers. Game time Saturday is 7:20 p.m. and Sunday’s game starts at 1:20 p.m.
