The Minor Bantam AAA Trappers lost their NOHA/NOHL Championship series to the Nickel City Sons after a heartbreaking 4-3 loss in triple overtime in the fifth and deciding game Sunday in Sudbury.

The Sons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period before Nico Laforge got one back for the Trappers on the PP in the second period with an assist from Brett Richardson.

The Trappers then took the lead in the third period. Todd Violette tied the game when he poked home a perfect point shot from Keane Koivisto on the PP and then Laforge put the Trappers ahead when he scored his second of the game with an assist from Mathis Bernard.

Nickel City would tie the game with five minutes left to play in regulation setting the stage for OT.

The Trappers had two goals disallowed early in the first OT period. Trappers goaltender, Caleb Sanders and Noah Beaulne (NC goalie) then put on a goaltending show for the remainder of the first and second overtime sessions.

Four minutes into the third OT session Nickel City snuck one home to take the best of five series.

The coaching staff of the Trappers is extremely proud of the effort from their players. Trapper players include Caleb Sanders, Caelan McAuliffe, Owen Ethier, Keane Koivisto, Jake Fullerton, Callum Craft, Will Perreault, Chase Lefebvre, Matt Savignac, Will Bourre, Tyler Desmarais, Anden Ringuette, Cameron MacDonald, Todd Violette, Mathis Bernard, Nico Laforge and Brett Richardson.
