North Bay’s new Peewee ‘AAA’ program took to the ice for the first time this week with three ice sessions led by head coach John Couch.

“The kids seem keen and anxious to play,” said Couch noting that nearly 40 players came out for the three days of ice at Pete Palangio arena this week.

“For the players not being on the ice for the last couple of months they look excellent. We weren’t expecting it to look as good as it does,” added Couch who has players from as far away as New Liskeard trying to make the club.

Despite the reality that cuts have to be made, the club has opted to leave that for the main camp as all the players are invited back for the August main camp and after that the team will trim its roster down to 25 players for a late August tournament in the GTA.

“It will give all the kids the opportunity to grow over the summer and get in shape and get better before we make any decisions,” said the former Midget ‘AAA’ Trappers coach.
