Thunderbirds swimmers a splash with All Star team

22nd Annual Youth Cup - The four Thunderbirds Swim Club swimmers that were part of the Northeastern Ontario Region All Stars Tour Team made a big contribution to the 7th place overall finish at the recent 22nd Annual Youth Cup Swim Meet. Andrew Palangio 12, had the top individual points of any member of the team with 145 points. Andrew swam 10 races earning 10 personal best times with a gold medal in 50 meter Butterfly with a time of 32.97, two bronze medals in 50m Freestyle with a time of 29.57 and 100m Freestyle with a time of 1:04.72. He also earned 4th place ribbons in 200m Butterfly; 200m Individual Medley and 400m Individual Medley a 5th in 50m backstroke, 7th in 100m Butterfly and 8th place finishes in 200m Freestyle and 400m Freestyle. Six of Andrew’s swims were Provincial times.

Jennifer Piper 14, was another top contributor earning 72 Individual points with her silver medal in 100m Freestyle with a time of 59.71 and bronze medal in 50m Freestyle with a time of 27.70. Jennifer also earned a 5th in 50 m Butterfly and 7th in 100 m Butterfly and obtained 5 personal best times. Jennifer earned four Provincial times and two Senior Provincial times with her swims. Other swimmers were Bryanna Penno 12, who earned 50 Individual points with her silver medal in 50m Butterfly with a time of 32.83. Bryanna also earned a 6th in 50m Breaststroke; an 8th in 100m Butterfly and 7 personal best times. Bryanna earned one Provincial time with her swims. Emma Hives 12, earned 7 Individual points for the team, her best showing was a 12th place finish in 50m Backstroke with a time of 35.92. Emma earned 3 personal best times.

In relays Andrew helped the All Stars win a Silver in 400m Medley relay Boys 12 and Under and a Bronze in 400m Freestyle relay Boys 12 and Under while Bryanna helped the 400m Medley relay Girls 12 and Under win a 6th place ribbon and Emma was a member of the Silver medal winning 400m Freestyle relay Girls 12 and Under team. Jennifer helped the Girls 13 & 14 400m Freestyle relay team win a Silver and the Girls 13& 14 400m Medley relay win a 7th place ribbon.

The four day 22nd Annual Youth Cup attracted 38 teams with a total of 581 swimmers from such provinces as Ontario, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick to name a few.
