North Bay's Doyle Anthony Jr. was named the athlete of the week (Jan. 1st - 8th) at Mount Allison University.

The six-foot-five forward had 15 points along with 7 rebounds in a 87-66 loss to Mount Saint Vincent University and then exploded for 31 points and 13 boards in a 97-90 victory over the University of King's College last weekend.

The West Ferris graduate led the Mounties in scoring on both days, and he has been instrumental in their 7-3 record and second-place conference ranking.

Anthony is in his third year with the Mounties and although felt his first couple years at Mount Allison were tough, he believes the team has turned the corner in '06-'07.

"There's actually only one other player left from my first year there, and it's a totally different dynamic," said Anthony Jr.

"We have a much tighter knit group compared to before when it was about individuals now I can say we are more of a team."

Doyle is a former North Bay and Northern Ontario first-team all-star. In 2004, his final high school season, he was an MVP there playing under the watchful eye of coach Larry Tougas. The next year Doyle arrived with a bang at the Mount Allison where he was selected as the ACAA Conference Rookie of the Year, and as a second-team league all-star.

Doyle is currently enrolled in third-year Arts and majors in history.
