Twenty-six members of the North Bay Titans swim team competed at the Dave Kensit Memorial Short Course Championship Swim Meet in Sault Ste. Marie this past weekend.
A total of 15 teams from the Northeastern Ontario region were represented.
This swim competition is a qualifying meet meaning that swimmers must achieve a time standard in order to compete.
Titans swimmer Megan Tom won the High Points Award in the 13-14 year old female category with 6 first place finishes.
Megan also achieved a Provincial qualifying time in the 200 meter Individual Medley.
Ryan Tom was the High Points Award winner in the 11-12 year old male category.
He earned 7 first place finishes and achieved Festival qualifying times in the 200 meter Individual Medley and 100 meter Backstroke events.
Other first place finishes went to Steve Cholette, Brody Marietti and Julia Rivet.
Swimmers who placed second include Joshua Gough, Evan Kilroy and Ayden Michaud.
Third place honours went to Sheldon Kilroy and Drew Stephenson.
The 11-year-old Kilroy achieved a Festival qualifying time in the 100 meter Breaststroke event.
Head Coach Sam Crossley was impressed with a number of Titans swimmers at the high profile event.
“Great job to Leah Dawson and Jennifer Tripp for swimming top 8 in two of their preliminary swims and securing a spot in their first finals as 13 & Over swimmers,” noted Crossley.
“First time Dave Kensit Championship participants who did a fabulous job were Chloe Popp, Julia Rivet, Drew Stephenson, & Gavin Wall.”
The following swimmers achieved personal best times: Noelle Corazza, Leah Dawson, William Fraser, Alexis Mitchell, William Mitchell, Jillian O’Donnell, Chloe Popp, Karly Saile, Jeremy Sallie, Quinn Schroeder, Jennifer Tripp, Katherine Tripp, Jorn Van Leemput, Gavin Wall and Jenna Wall.
The Titans will host their next meet on February 19-21 at the North Bay YMCA.
