T-Birds top 15 finish

With screams of “Go T-Birds” from pool deck and high up in the stands the Thunderbirds Swim Club finished the Team 2 Championships in Sudbury this weekend in 11th place. Twenty-eight swimmers participated ranging from 7 to 17 years old.
With screams of “Go T-Birds” from pool deck and high up in the stands the Thunderbirds Swim Club finished the Team 2 Championships in Sudbury this weekend in 11th place. Twenty-eight swimmers participated ranging from 7 to 17 years old. All had personal goals for the weekends competition many surpassing them.

The club had four relay teams in different categories. One exciting moment was the 11 & 12 year old Free Relay team of Jesse Hives, Jaime Udeschini, Sydney Hughes and Jaydan Jackson edging out Sudbury Laurentian Swim Club by .01 seconds for the gold medal. The medley team consisting of Hives, Udeschini, Jackson and Brooklyn Jones came away with the gold again as well as breaking a team record.

The girls 13 & 14 years old relay team placed 4th and 5th in the Free and Medley events. Swimmers were Emma Hives, Jane Ferguson, Bryanna Penno and Sierra McCourt.

The team had amazing individual results with Udeschini and Penno coming extremely close to winning their respective age category. Penno had two 1st and two 2nd while Udeschini had three 1st and one 2nd and 3rd. Jesse Hives brought home two silvers and two bronzes. Jaydan Jackson and Brooklyn Jones swam to one bronze each. Jen Piper the clubs most experienced swimmer came away with three bronzes.

Coaches Simard, Udeschini and Lecour were proud to call themselves Thunderbird coaches. The team has five more meets left before the season ends and are anticipating sending 7 swimmers to represent the club at long course provincials in Nepean. Next weekend the club will host their annual Top Fish Meet for the 10 and under swimmers from 1-5 p.m. at C.F.B pool.
