T-Birds post great results at Provincials

The 2008 Junior Provincial Swim Championship were held these past four days in London, Ontario with 1008 swimmers from across Ontario participating, 8 of them from the Thunderbird Swim Club.

The team was able to put together a 13-14 years girls relay for the entire weekend with great results posted in each session. Two swimmers were able to achieve Age Group National times this weekend, Kylie Weber in the 13 yr old girls 200 backstroke and Mackenzie King in the 14 year old boys 100 backstroke. This accomplishment allows them to travel to Calgary in July for the four day meet. The team now has five swimmers going, King, Weber, Sierra McCourt, Jaydan Jackson, Jen Piper and Jesse Hives.

Weber also was successful in the 13-year-old girls 200 butterfly qualifying for finals posting a personal best time and 7th overall as well as posting two more personal best time throughout the weekend and King managed a 5th & 7th place and four personal best times. Jaydan Jackson, Sydney Hughes and Jesse Hives swam in the 12-year-old girls category with Jackson swimming to a 6th & 8th placing overall and posting two best times, Hughes swam to one top 8th placing and posting two best times and Hives to one best time for the weekend. Jaime Udeschini and Jane Ferguson swam in the 13-year-old girls category with Udeschini achieving one best time and Ferguson putting in a solid performance in her 50 and 200 freestyle. Sierra McCourt swam in the 14 yr old girl category achieving one best time and one provincial standard time for her new age category. Overall the weekend was a huge success as well as a learning experience for the 8 swimmers. The club will now take some time in March to regenerate and continue to warm up for the up coming long course events.
