T-Birds outlast Skyhawks

Dan Vernelli scored twice to lead the Soo Thunderbirds to a 3-2 victory over the North Bay Skyhawks Saturday night at the John Rhodes Community Centre in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

Ryan Loach and Dustin Fummerton did the scoring for the Skyhawks who fall to 14-3 on the year.

"They played well," Skyhawks head coach Ian Swalucynski said.

"I don’t want to take anything away from them. They scored on our mistakes and Dube made the stops. No one likes losing but we were unlucky."

Tyler Evoy had the other goal for the T-Birds.

Riley Ross took the loss in goal for the Skyhawks as he turned aside 26 shots.

The Skyhawks are back on the road Saturday night as they host the Temiscaming Royals Sunday night at Memorial Gardens. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
