North Eastern Ontario Region (NEOR) hosted 30 swimmers ages 10-13 at the CFB North Bay 22 Wing Recreation Centre November 26th to November 27th.

The NEOR Learn to Train Swim Camp brings swimmers from across the North East region to train as a group.  It also provides an opportunity for regional coaches to share and transfer knowledge and expertise.

Swimmers from nine regional swim clubs participated in the event including Elliot Lake Aquatic Club, Valley East Waves, CT33 Thunderbirds, Kapuskasing Swim Club, North Bay Y Titans, Northern Storm Aquatic Club, Sault Ste. Marie Aquatic Club, Sudbury Laurentian Swim Club, Timmins Marlins Swim Club, and East Nipissing Sturgeon Falls Swim Team. The water sessions concentrated on pace control and skill development, while the out of the pool sessions focused on dry land training, nutrition, fitness, "swimming hygiene" and goal setting.

All swimmers who attended the camp had their start, strokes and turns evaluated using criteria and a points system developed by Swim Canada. Top point achievers were highlighted at the end of the event.  Thunderbirds swimmer Trael Daly Stevens earned the most points overall from all categories, and also earned the highest points in each individual evaluation category. Other swimmers from the CT33 Thunderbird swim club who participated in the training camp were Lindsay Greig, Sheldon Kilroy, Riley Periard and Jenna Wall.

Daly Stevens will join his team members this weekend at the NEOR 2 event to be hosted by the North Bay Y Titans.
