Supporting the Senators?

We asked you earlier in the week if you will jump on the Ottawa Senators bandwagon? Here's how some of you feel about the Ottawa Senators quest to be the first Ontario based NHL team to win a Stanley Cup since 1967.

It makes me proud that an Ontario team has made it to the playoffs and I wish them well! However, in my opinion, "jumping on a bandwagon" for a team other than the one you religiously cheer for is ridiculous. I have been a Leaf fan since I was 3 years old and I have never cheered for another team. To me, disliking the Sens goes hand and hand with disliking the Canadiens. Only a true Leaf fan can understand this, even though our cheering can be frustrating, we remain optimistic anyways. Here's to hoping next year will be our year!

GO LEAFS GO

I will most defiantly not be cheering for the Senators in the Stanley Cup finals.

Minus the obvious fact they blew up my playoff pools, they are home to the most hypocritical fans ever. If I talk to them about the Leafs all I get in response is a continued proud shout of "Not since 67" or some other annoying, non-productive, half-brained variation. What bugs me the most is Ottawa last won the Stanley Cup in 1927. 1927!! Hold on let me get my calculator out to check that one. Seems to be Ottawa hasn't won a Cup in EIGHTY YEARS and last time I checked 80 years is a lot longer than 40 years. So all you Ottawa fans who want to point out to me the Leafs haven't sipped from Lord Stanley's mug in 40 years will be served a piece of humble pie when they look up the list of Stanley Cup Champions. In the meantime I will sit back and watch the Ducks win the Cup in 6 games.

My wife and I are both rooting for the Senators. Always cheer for the Canadian team. I think Bettman would rather see to American teams in the final. I think the Sens have what it takes to go all the way. Go Sens Go.

It is nice to see a Canadian based team making it into the Stanley Cup finals once again. I have been a true Habs fan for as long as I can remember and if it was Habs vs Sens - I would like to see the Sens fall. Since this is not the case, I say let's get on the "Bandwagon." If it was any other Canadian based team I would cheer for them as well. It's hard to imagine other Canadians cheering for a non-Canadian based team to win our virtuous trophy. Yes, it's true that many players on Anaheim or Detroit are Canadian born players - however, the franchises are not based here.

Not since 1993, when the Montreal Canadiens were the last Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup, has there been a fire in a Canadian based team. So let's show our support to our Nation's Capital team Go SENS Go!

Oh, the dilemma I face as a die-hard Leaf's fan and as a proud Canadian. There is no doubt that the Stanley Cup, the ultimate prize of our unofficial national sport, belongs north of the border, but how can I sit in good faith and cheer on the ONE Canadian team I have the ultimate hatred for.

Watching the previous series with Buffalo I found myself feeling confused when either team would score, to cheer or not. Part of me was truly wishing for Ottawa to choke once again as they do year after year and blow the last series after the 3-0 lead; yet Lord Stanley back in Canada is a nice thought. That being said it shows how much we Canadians love our hockey when it is such a close decision between National pride and hockey glory.

In the end I have to choose National pride however, and just face all those Sens fans when I go back to school in September, so a very reluctant Go Sens Go, but a full-hearted Go-Canada-Go!

I am a North Bayite who now resides in Alberta and witnessed the Flames and Oilers runs to the Finals. It was quite evident that even the most hard-nosed Flames or Oilers was willing to root for their most hated Alberta rival when it came down to the Finals. There were still some who didn't cheer for the other team though, and I think you will see that from Leafs fans as far as the Senators go this year.

I've been in contact with two Leafs fans who reside in Sudbury and near Toronto who are dead set against seeing the Sens take home the Cup. And why not? The Leafs haven't tasted any bubbly out of Lord Stanley's mug since 1967 and the "New Senators" are poised to do so in only their 15th year of existence. While the Leafs have been floundering in mediocrity, the Senators have flirted with greatness and continued to improve. The Flames and the Oilers both had success in the 80's and early 90's so it wasn't as hard for fans of the opposite teams to root for the "other guys" as it would be for Leafs fans to root for the Senators.

Of course we all know that Leafs fans certainly enjoy their "whine" and I will enjoy watching them all squirm if the Senators win the Stanley Cup. And I know there are many people out here in the West that are jumping on the Sens bandwagon. I certainly am!! Go Sens!!

I would rather see Mexico City get a NHL team and win the cup than Ottawa.

Yes I am a Leafs fan (as painful as that is sometimes) but also cheer for any Canadian team (even the Habs) BUT Ottawa. I think that their captain is a cheap shot artist (another non-called hit from behind in the Buffalo series) and they trade for somebody who should be in JAIL. If Dany was anybody other than a professional athlete he would be in jail right now like he should be, regardless of what the Snyder's said. Personally I think that he should take the whole team for a car ride down residential streets at 100mph!!!
