Stingers buzz into Oshawa tourney semifinal

Oshawa – The North Bay Stingers Peewee AA hockey team was defeated in semifinal action at the Crows Sports MP3 Funfest Tournament here on the weekend. The Stingers opened round robin play with a 4-1 win over Kingston.

The Stingers opened round robin play with a 4-1 win over Kingston. Tyler Kennedy, Cole Filiatrault, Courtney Geisler and Ryan Wilkinson were the goal scorers.

In game two the Stingers surrendered the game winner only nine seconds into the contest as New Teceumseh picked up a 3-0 win. Despite a penalty shot and a couple of breakaways the Stingers were held scoreless through the contest.

The Stingers faced the host team from Oshawa in their third round robin game with the winner advancing to the semifinals. The Stingers came out on top 3-2 on goals from Matt Buckley, Nick Scott and Stephen Mason.

The Stingers faced Newmarket in their semifinal game. Newmarket took a 1-0 lead into the second and added five goals in a ten minute span in the second to coast to a 7-2 win. Newmarket advanced out of their pool play outscoring their opponents 28-2 in three games. Stingers goal scorers were Wilkinson and Danny Desrochers.

Other team members are Pascal Laperriere, Kenny Appleby, Matt Jemmett, Jamie Restoule, Jake Staples, Eric Champagne and Matt Salter.

The Stingers will travel to Kanata in the New Year to participate in the Bells Sensplex Tournament Jan 25-27.
