The West Ferris Trojans and Franco Cite Patriotes senior boys soccer teams played to a hard fought 1-1 tie last night in NDA soccer action. Strong defensive efforts and outstanding goaltending by Tyler Cowdon of the Trojans and Eric Venne of the Patriots stole the show with both keepers making a number of key saves to keep the score at 1-1. Yves Desjardins scored the first goal of the game at the 4-minute mark of the second half to give the Patriots at 1-0 lead. This lead was short lived however as Doug McRae blasted a shot passed Venne at the 16-minute mark after being send in alone on a perfect pass from team mate John Gore. Both teams had their chances late in the game but couldn’t manage another goal. Tyson Brear of the Trojans cleared the ball off the goal line at the 27 minute mark to save what appeared to be a sure goal and Venne made a spectacular save late in the game, diving to his right to stop a direct free kick hammered passed the Patriots wall by McCrae from just outside the 18-yard box.
