Sportsforce 2009 - a summer, co-ed, sport conditioning camp, for athletes 14 years and older - will once again be offered by the North Bay Norsemen and Valkyries Weightlifting team. Its graduates include Buffalo Sabres defenseman Craig Rivet, former world kick boxing champion Chantal Nadon, and sprinter Adam Newton of Simon Fraser University.

As usual, the program’s headquarters will be the Athletic Performance Centre at the YMCA. Participants can choose from two daily training slots on a Monday through Thursday basis. The camp begins on Monday, June 29 and runs until Thursday, August 20.

The overall focus is the development of speed, flexibility, agility, and explosive power for sports such as volleyball, basketball, hockey, and football. On a daily basis, activities include a wide variety of field and hill drills, along with weightlifting and plyometric exercises. All tests and movements are conducted under the strict guidance of highly qualified coaches.

Among the roster of instructors are: Melody Ogletree, a teacher in Canadore Sport Conditioning Program, and David Staniszewski, North Bay’s athlete of the year for 2007, Larry Sheppard, the program’s founder and long-time strength and conditioning coach, will be the camp’s Director of Programming.
