The West Ferris Partners-in-Law Bantam AA Spitfires brought home the Silver medals from the 28th Annual Steel City International Hockey Tournament in Sault Ste. Marie on the weekend Jan. 9th-12th. The Spitfires faced some talented teams in the tournament and had to play some of their best hockey of the season to get them to the Championship Game in the Bantam AA division.

During round robin play, the Spitfires had wins over The Westfort Maroons (Thunder Bay), P&M Insurance (SSM), and the Sudbury Bulldogs by 9-3, 4-2, and 4-1 scores respectively. Mixed in with these wins was an early morning 1-1 tie against Pino’s Titans (SSM). The Spitfires had to score the tying goal with under 2 minutes left in the game to preserve an undefeated round robin.

Earning the top spot in their division, The Spitfires faced Cooper Dental (Soo Michigan) in the Semi Finals on the large ice surface of the Essar Centre which the Sault Greyhounds call home. This battle was decided when the Spitfires scored early in over-time to advance to the Championship game.

Facing the tough Fort Francis Taggs in the Championship Game, The Spitfires again brought forth their best effort. After falling behind 4-0 by the mid-point of the game, the Spitfires battled back hard only to fall to the Taggs by a 6-4 margin after an empty net goal was scored.

Although losing in the Championship Game is hard to swallow, the Spitfires and their coaching staff are extremely pleased to be able to bring home the Silver Medals considering the level of competition associated with this International Tournament.

Members of the Spitfires team include: Kenny Appleby, Tyler Besner, Mike Perron, Travis Rose, Jim Tulloch, Owen Polsen-Mowatt, Joey Boulet, David Ford, Danny Desroches, Garrett Hatherley, Brad Cauchy, Anthony Celebre, Jordan Sutcliffe, Ryley Valade and Michael Carr.
