Solid Finish for Apollo Gymnasts

BRACEBRIDGE, ON - 5 members of the North Bay Apollo Gymnastics Club attended the 2nd provincial qualifier held in Bracebridge over the weekend.

In the level 5, age 12 and 13 category, Victoria Willars took the podium to receive a silver medal on vault. Willars also placed 10th on floor with a score of 11.4.
Katie Vaillancourt, competing in the level 5, age 10 and 11 division, had a solid performance on each event to secure a 13th place finish in the all-around out of 45 competitors from all across Ontario. For award purposes, the division was split in half. Vaillancourt received a bronze medal for her dynamic handspring on vault. She also placed 6th on beam and received a 5th place ribbon for her efforts on floor and over-all.

Rachel Fung, 14, finished 4th for her dynamic performance on floor, narrowly missing medal contention by less than 0.1 points. Fung also placed 5th on vault and 8th on bars in the level 5 division.

Taylor Vaillancourt, North Bay’s youngest provincial competitor, ranked 8th over-all in a field of 20 level 5, age 9 athletes. Vaillancourt placed 7th on vault and beam. Her success helped her achieve an all-around score of 42.750.

In the level 7, age 14 and up category, Alison Fung placed 7th on the floor exercise. She moved on to the vault performing a half-on, half-off for a score of 12.15 and an 8th place finish on the event.

The entire women’s gymnastics team will be traveling to Base Borden this weekend. The 3rd provincial qualifier is to be held in conjunction with an invitational competition for level 2-9 athletes.
