Scott Faulkner scored an unassisted goal midway through the first overtime period to break a 2-2 tie and lead the Skyhawks to a 3-2 victory over the Abitibi Eskimos at the Jus Jordan arena in Iroquois Falls Wednesday night.

The win gives the Skyhawks a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven NOJHL quarter-final series.

Brad Hummel and Kody Carnevale scored for the Skyhawks in regulation. Skyhawks goalie Ian Wilson made 37 saves for his first NOJHL playoff victory.

Dan Dube and Tyler Derrick scored for the Eskimos who will be hosting the 2007 Dudley Hewitt Cup.

It's a big win and a big confidence booster for a Skyhawks club that dropped its final six regular season games coming into Wednesday nights NOJHL playoff opener.

“We played hard and with discipline and played smart for the most part,” said Skyhawks head coach Darren Turcotte after the big win.

“We’re excited that we have one win under our belt but now we’re focusing on tomorrow and don’t have any time to rest and we’ll be right back at it and we’ll just let guys enjoy the ride home.”

Game two takes place Thursday night at Memorial Gardens.
