The Manitoulin Islanders gave the North Bay Skyhawks a scare but in the end the Skyhawks prevailed 5-4 in their road visit to the Howland Recreation Centre in Little Current.

The Skyhawks battled back from a 4-3 third period deficit with a pair of unanswered goals en route to the victory.

"Good teams find a way to win and we did that tonight," said Skyhawks head coach Darren Turcotte.

Newcomer Chad Jones scored the game winning goal for the Skyhawks while Trent Lizee added a pair of goals in his first game as a Skyhawk too.

Turcotte said the local line made up of Tyler Hummel, Scott Britton and Nick Brunette had a solid game as they were on the ice for three of the five Skyhawks goals.

The Skyhawks busy weekend continues on Saturday as they travel to Blind River to take on the Beavers.

The locals finish up their stretch of 4 games in 5 nights with a Sunday night game against the Abitibi Eskimos at Memorial Gardens. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
