Adam Cook's goal on a rebound midway through the third period was the difference as the North Bay Skyhawks slipped by the Soo Indians 6-5 on Sunday night at Memorial Gardens.

Nick Kulas scored twice for the Skyhawks with singles going to Matt Williams, Joe Trotter and Scott Faulkner.

Nick Zilka had a pair for the Indians while Mike Connolly, Sam Yearsley and Sean Farley rounded out the scoring for the visitors.

The Skyhawks built up a 2-0 lead after one period and extended the lead to 3-0 early in the second but three powerplay goals in six chances in the middle frame allowed the Indians back into the game.

Skyhawks head coach Darren Turcotte was glad to get the two points and salvage something from a weekend that started off with a pair of road losses to Manitoulin and Blind River.

"The bottom line is we got our two points against a team that’s in second place in the standings,” said Turcotte.

“Sometimes you can’t control what’s going on out there as far as penalties go, it’s frustrating for everybody but you've got to find a way to battle through it.”

The Skyhawks hope to carry that momentum forward as they host the streaking Manitoulin Islanders on Friday night.
