After dropping two straight games this past weekend, the Skyhawks looked to regain a bit of pride as they took on the last place Manitoulin Islanders and came away with
a 4-3 overtime win.

“A win’s a win,” said Skyhawks Head Coach Darren Turcotte. “It’s a tough game to assess We fired 58 shots on net, we probably didn’t battle as hard as we could, but the bottom line is we had 58 shots on net and I don’t think anyone in the dressing room is happy with the fact that we gave away one point to Manitoulin, it”s a long season and one point here and there can make a big difference,” Turcotte added.

Islanders’ goaltender JJ Gargour was hot, stopping 54 of 58 North Bay shots keeping Manitoulin in the game.

“We just couldn’t get the puck by him. We had guys hovering around and screening, we just couldn’t get the rebounds,” Turcotte said.

Skyhawks forward Cory Park had a night to remember - scoring the overtime winner and collecting his first hat trick on the year. Also, scoring for the ‘Hawks was Brad Hummel with assists going to Justin Roy, Kyle Radigan, and Mike Lawlor.

The absence of Kolton Brown and John Seymour, the ‘Hawks physical play suffered immensely. Turcotte says that Seymour has played very well since he started with
the Skyhawks but the young guys he had up played very well in their place.

“It’s given guys a chance to step up and gain some experience over the weekend,” Turcotte said.

The Skyhawks will hopefully not face damnation as they take on the Blind River Beavers, Friday at Memorial Gardens.
