First Period

Brad Norkum is assessed a goalie interferance penalty early in the first after knocking over Soo Thunderbirds goalie Ryan Dube.

The Skyhawks successfully kill off the Norkum minor and T-Birds don't get a shot on goal on the power play.

The T-Birds are currently outshooting the Skyhawks 6-1.

Skyhawks go on the power play and Solomon McCann has a great chance but his shot goes wide.

T-Birds kill that penalty but Ian Cosgrove gets a holding penalty and 'Hawks are back on the PP.

Shots are now 7-4 T-Birds with 7 minutes left in the first period.

Less than 5 minutes remaining in the opening period.

Trevor McNutt scores for the T-Birds to open the scoring with less than 2 minutes left in the first period. Drew Otto gets the only assist on the T-Birds goal.

McNutt's shot went off the stick off Brad Norkum and past Jeff Michael.

Soo Thunderbirds lead 1-0 after 20 minutes of play.

Shots were 14-5 T-Birds.

Second Period

T-Birds will start the second period on the power play.

Skyhawks kill off a Carnavale minor and then Konopelky gets a hooking call 3 minutes into the 2nd.

Some fans describing the Skyhawks play so far as brutal.

Skyhawks kill off the penalty. Shots are now 18-9 T-Birds with 13 minutes left in the second period.

Zack LaRue scores an unassisted goal on a 2 on 1 to make it 2-0 Thunderbirds.

Our Matt Gordon says the T-Birds are playing tough man to man on the Skyhawks in their zone which translates to very few scoring chances.

Skyhawks go on the power play with 7 minutes left in the second after Colin Barnauskas runs over Jeff Michael.

Alex Valenti has a great chance but misses the net as the power play comes to an end.

Less than 5 minutes left in the second period.

Skyhawks go on the power play with 3:30 left. Shots are 24-12 T-Birds.

Power play ends shortly as it begins as 20 seconds in Trent Lizee is handed a cross checking penalty setting up 4 on 4 action.

End of the second period and Skyhawks are being outshot 27-14. Matt Gordon says the Skyhawks just can't crack the T-Birds tough defence.

Third Period

Drew Otto takes an early penalty for the T-Birds but once again Trent Lizee goes to the "sin bin" to kill the power play.

T-Birds are handed a penalty after a scrum and its 4 on 3 for 50 seconds for the Skyhawks.

The T-Birds kill off the short power play with no good chances by the Skyhawks.

Skyhawks go back on the penalty kill as Brad Norkum is handed a high sticking penalty with 12 minutes left in regulation.

Nick Minardi makes it 3-0 T-Birds on a nice feed from Drew Otto as his one-timer goes low blocker side on a bewildered Jeff Michael.

Joel Senecal called for a high stick and assessed a 10 minute misconduct.

The T-Birds go to the power play again and Gerry Petingalo makes it 4-0 with assists to Trevor McNutt and Kevin Smith.

Nick Minardi gets by 3 Skyhawks defenders but Jeff Michael makes a great stop.

Nick Laporte and Warren Webster square off with Laporte getting the decision. Maybe the only victory for the Skyhawks on this night.

During the scuffle, Jeff Michael calls Soo goalie Ryan Dube to meet at centre ice. Dube declines.

Anthony Marasco and Dan Frawley also drop the gloves.

Laporte is assessed 2 game misconducts for trying to take an extra punch at the end of the fight.

Just over 1300 in paid attendance. Not much of an extra man.

The game continues to take an ugly turn. This time Soo forward Ryan McLean jumps Brad Norkum after he knocks over Soo goalie Ryan Dube.

With 5 minutes remaining the shots on goal are 36-23 T-Birds.

The Skyhawks still have a very remote chance as they have a 1:30 5 on 3.

Dube keeps his shutout intact. Konopelky blasts not one but two shots way over the net during the 2-man advantage.

Luke O'Brien puts away a rebound on a Zack LaRue breakaway with Michael left hung out to dry. 5-0 Thunderbirds. This one is a laugher.

One minute left to play in regulation.
