North Bay's Russ Moyer will be joining the Central Hockey League's Odessa Jackalopes this fall.

“He’s a fine, young player who played junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League, and I’ve heard great things about him,” said Jackalopes head coach Paul Gillis on the team website.

“He has a high skill level. He’s a gritty player, a feisty player with lots of energy,” added Gillis, who played his junior hockey with the North Bay Centennials.

Moyer, who has been working locally as an instructor at the Eurocamp Hockey School in July, began his professional career last season, appearing in 50 games for the Muskegon Fury and scoring 20 points (six goals, 14 assists). Moyer was also called up to the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins for two games during last season as well.

“I expect him to be a top four defenseman on our team this year,” added Gillis.

Before turning pro, Moyer played four years of hockey at Acadia University, scoring 12 goals and adding 36 assists in 109 career games. From 1999-2003, Moyer played junior hockey for the Ottawa 67’s of the Ontario Hockey League. In 231 games, the defenseman scored 92 points (19 goals, 73 assists).
