Rotarians Fail to Beat the Clock

The Weather and the clock proved to be too much for the Carte Blanche Rotarians as they were eliminated in the semi-finals at the Brampton Junior Baseball Tournament this past weekend.
The Weather and the clock proved to be too much for the Carte Blanche Rotarians as they were eliminated in the semi-finals at the Brampton Junior Baseball Tournament this past weekend.

The locals finished in a three-way tie for second in their division, but secured second place as a result of the better run differential. In the semi-final game they trailed Guelph 2-1 when the rains came and washed out the field along with two other fields that were available. The other semi-final game was being played on the only playable field available and when play was resumed, Brampton defeated Rexdale 17-2.

The North Bay squad was told they would have to play their game following the other semi-final game and would have a time restriction placed on their game. North Bay asked to have the other game declared final and to be allowed to play a full game, but their request was denied. Trailing 6-5 going into the top of the 7th inning, the umpires declared the game over due to a time restriction.

The Carte Blanche Rotarians lost their first two games to Hamilton 4-2 despite a strong pitching performance from Terry Seguin allowing only 3 hits. Facing a strong Brampton team North Bay lost 5-1. Jim Daly led the way offensively with two hits in both games. Facing elimination, North Bay beat Whitby 8-2 with Daly and Tom Conrad each contributing 2 hits and Terry Seguin supplying a 3 run home run. Seguin, Nick Gordon and Jordie Brouse held Whitby to only 3 hits.

The semi-final game saw the lead change hands four times until time ran out. Seguin and Nick Cicci had two hits apiece in the game.

The tournament proved to be a good tune up for the North Bay squad as they head back to Brampton in August for the provincial championships.
