A Henry Scott power play goal 4:43 into the third period broke a tie game as the Powassan Voodoos went on the slip past the Hearst Lumberjacks 3-2 in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Friday night at the Powassan Sportsplex.

The Voodoos got going offensively 15:21 into the first period thanks to Rico Rossi, with an assist from newcomer Seiji Martone.

Rossi then made it 2-0 Powassan 5:48 into the middle stanza as he notched his second of the night and eighth overall on a nice two on one play with Max Newnam.

Battling back, Hearst pulled to within one before the second was complete thanks to a Blaise Arkle man advantage effort at 16:04.

The Lumberjacks then tied it 3:17 into the third off the stick of Bradley Golant, who collected his 11th marker of the campaign.

However, the Voodoos picked up a power play a half minute later and capitalized with Scott’s game-winner to pull out the triumph on home ice as they won for a 20th time this season in their first game of 2019.

Hearst did hold the edge in shots on the night by a 40-31 count with Christian Cicigoi picking up the win while Nicholas Tallarico suffered the narrow loss.
