A pair of first-year Americans led the Voodoos to their third straight win over the Rapids.

Rookie forward Dylan Gajewski supplied his first three goals while first-year netminder Luke Greenwood made 18 stops to post his initial shutout in helping the Powassan Voodoos skate to their seventh consecutive Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League victory Wednesday as they topped the French River Rapids 7-0 at the Powassan Sportsplex.

Meeting the Rapids for the third straight outing, the Voodoos opened the night’s scoring 7:55 in as Eric Mondoux notched his initial tally of the campaign in what was the game-winner.

Picking up the first man-advantage opportunity in the contest, Powassan extended the home side’s lead as Joe Whittet collected his ninth goal on the season.

The hosts were not done there as they added a third marker before the period was complete as Gajewski, a Michigan product, picked up his opening NOJHL effort.

Heading to the middle stanza, Gajewski added league goal No. 2 for himself at 6:44 with an assist going to Parker Bowman, who registered a point for a seventh straight outing.

The Voodoos then added another late in the frame off the stick Tomas Yachmenov to extend the Voodoos cushion to five.

Special teams helped the host secure the win in the final frame as Gregory Trudeau-Paquet scored on the power play, which counted as his 75th career tally.

Gajewski then completed his hat trick with 4:20 remaining to round out the night’s scoring.

Cade Herd and Sam Ellwood chipped in with two assists in the triumph.

A big edge in shots favoured Powassan by a 53-18 margin with Greenwood picking up the win and Sabastian Woods suffering the loss.
