The West Ferris Ringette Association kicked off its 2004/2005 season with a full weekend of events.

Several players of all ages took part in a daylong game at Pete Palangio Arena and the money raised will go towards the new hospital.

Included in this daylong game was a contest between celebrities and players from the West Ferris Ringette Association. No one will ever know if there was a winner as it’s rumored rules were broken at every turn.

There was also a ‘Try Ringette for Free Session’, where people who have never played ringette got a chance to try it out at no cost with no obligation to join.

There was also be a ringette goalie clinic, open to ringette goalies of all ages and head instructor was Tom Hedican, a former assistant coach with the North Bay Centennials and now a goaltending consultant.

“We were fortunate to have Tom Hedican running this clinic,” WFR president Jeff Francom said. “Tom is a professional goalie coach, who trains goalies at the highest level, including professionals who play in Europe.”

Tim White also held power skating clinics for all ages of ringette players.

The ringette season formally begins Sept. 18 with conditioning ice and Rep team tryouts. Regular season games start Oct. 3. If you have questions about ringette or are interested in playing, call Jeff or Chris Francom at 495-1470.
