Rain Hampers Rotarians at All Ontario’s

If Brampton is ever in a drought, they should invite the Carte Blanche Rotarians to their City.
If Brampton is ever in a drought, they should invite the Carte Blanche Rotarians to their City. Last month the locals were eliminated in the semi-finals of the Brampton tournament due to rain that did not allow them to play a complete semi final game.

This past weekend it was deja vu. With a 1-1 record and down 3-0 to Mississauga, the North Bay team completed the top of the 4th inning as the skies opened up and the rains came. Tournament rules have a 2 hour time limit and in the case of rain with 3 ½ innings completed the time keeps running. This was the case with the North Bay team as time ran out and they were not able to complete the game and thus eliminated.

They started the tournament on a winning note defeating tournament favourites Brampton 7-4. Down 1-0 going into the 4th inning Carte Blanche scored 5 times highlighted by Jeremy Roy’s based loaded triple. A two-out single by Dale Valade plated 2 more runs in the 5th inning. Roy and Terry Seguin each had 2 hits for the winners. The win went to Seguin with a strong relief effort from Nick Gordon.

In their second game, North Bay lost 4-3 to Oakville. A four-run second inning was the difference as North Bay battled back with 3 runs in the 3rd inning but could not get the equalizer. Jim Daly had a key 2 run single in that inning.

The final game saw Mississauga take an early lead on a 2 run home run in the second inning. North Bay had their chances with runners in scoring position, but could not get a key hit when needed.

The Carte Blanche Rotarians return to playoff action in the United Rentals Senior Baseball League Monday night against Sturgeon Falls Builders with the winner advancing to the finals next week and the loser playing against Astorville Lumber Kings to determine the second finalist.
