The fields in the city of North Bay weren't the only sports facilities shut down on the weekend.

Drag race fans were disappointed Sunday morning when they approached the gates at the King of the Hill Dragway Race track at Jack Garland Airport only to find out that due to wet track conditions, the races were cancelled.

Although the track was dry by noon, there was not enough time to run the remainder of the races.

Track officials told baytoday that in the early morning hours of Sunday, there was as much as half an inch of water on the track. Water on a drag strip is very hazardous, with a high a risk of cars hydroplaning on the track.

However, Saturday’s races ran well into the night and they were able to finish some classes.

Despite Sunday’s cancellation, racers and volunteers who we spoke with felt that the event went quite well.
