The Chippewa Raiders boy’s soccer team won their home opener Thursday night by a score of 4-0 over the Northern Braves. Matt Caruso paced the Raiders offensively with 2 goals while singles went to Tyler Dunford and Richard Procunier. The shutout was recorded by John Brown and Josh McCully.

Chippewa now sits atop the NDA Boys Soccer standings at 2-0-0 after winning at Franco-Cite Tuesday night.

It's a great start for a Raider team that struggled in the standings and struggled to get players on the field last season.

"We know we aren't the favourites and people aren't expecting too much from us so that takes the pressure off of us," said Raiders Matt Caruso who leads the NDA Sr. Boys soccer league scoring with three goals in two games.

"I think we have a solid group of players from our old rep team and we are probably the dark horse this year," added Caruso.

The Raiders are in action again on Tuesday, May 1st against Bears at Cundari Field.

Bears blank Cats

In other NDA Senior Boys play Chris Uttaro scored the lone goal to pace the St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Bears to a 1-0 victory over the Widdifield Wildcats.

Paulo Marques recorded the shutout for the Bears.

Barons and Trojans tie one on

The West Ferris Trojans and Algonquin Barons battled to a 1-1 draw in NDA Senior Boys Soccer action. The Trojans took the lead on a goal scored by Scott Britton at the 30 minute mark of the second half. Mathieu Sneddon tied it up for the Barons with only 3 minutes remaining in the game, capitalizing on a rare Trojan defensive miscue. The game was hard fought and featured excellent goaltending and solid defense from both teams.
