The Pizza Pizza Peewee Trappers competed with twelve other teams in the Rayside Tiger Tourney, the weekend of November 17-19. Battling in a three-game round robin format, the Trappers found themselves ranked second overall with a tie in their first game 0-0 versus Rayside Icecats, a resounding 5-0 over WF Horner’s Gas and a blitz of Walden 5-1.

A ranking of second overall set the stage for a rematch with 7th seed Walden and Pizza Pizza would prevail in the quarter final 4-2. After a good night sleep, the team picked up where they left off, this time upending the Icecats 3-2 in one semi final.

In the other bracket, seeded 8th, WF’s North Bay Police Assoc. Peewees upset their way to the final with wins against 1st seed Capreol and 4th seed Temiskaming Shores Puckhounds.  Not to be outdone, Pizza Pizza Peewees would not take their nemesis lightly as the two North Bay teams would battle for the championship.

In the final, NBPA jumped out to a 3-1 lead by the end of the first period. Nevertheless, an emotional speech by assistant coach Eric Champagne (formerly of the Voodoos) got the team on a roll. They reeled off three straight goals to go ahead 4-3 with the final period still to play. The third period saw both teams battle hard but go scoreless therefore cementing the championship to Pizza Pizza.
