Tyler Field scored his second goal of the game with less than 10 minutes to play breaking a 5-5 tie as the North Bay Trappers edged the Kirkland Lake Legion 87's 6-5.

Field's goal was the key as it was scored only a couple shifts after the 87's battled back with a pair of quick third period goals to even things up.

“It was huge for us to come back and score like that,” said head coach Beau Moyer.

“It seems like we aren’t getting many bounces, they scored a couple goals from behind the net that sort of kept them in the game but the boys worked hard and we did what we had to do to win the game and that’s the main thing.”

Roch Pellerin led the Trappers offence with two goals and three assists for an impressive 5-point night. The Verner product credits his new linemates for the production as the trio finished with 11 points on the night.

“What helped me a lot is playing with Jamie Olivier for the first time and I guess we just connected really well together so I guess that’s why our offence did really well,” said Pellerin.

Moyer was also impressed with his new line combination.

“The guys that played hard deserved to be out there in the end like Tyler Field and Roch Pellerin and Jamie Olivier, they stood out for us and we need those types of guys to carry the team the rest of the way," said Moyer.

Mitchell Davis also scored in his first home game back with the Trappers. The Great North Midget League rookie of the year last season now has three goals in 3 games since returning to the Trappers after starting the season with the North Bay Skyhawks.

Dakota Barnhardt had the other goal for the Trappers.

Steve Cobean, Mitch Crosier, Trevor Deneault, Stephane Landry and Mike Souriol scored for the Legion 87's.

87's netminder Drew Peckover made a number of key saves throughout the game to keep the Kirkland Lake club within striking distance.

"That was his best game of the season," stated 87's head coach Bill Enouy about his goaltenders play Saturday night.

The Trappers will be looking for their 9th win of the season on Sunday afternoon as they host the New Liskeard Cubs. Game time is 1:20 p.m. at the West Ferris arena.
