Peewee AA Trappers prospect gold in New Liskeard

The North Bay/West Ferris Remax Peewee Major AA Trappers were victorious over the weekend capturing gold at the Wilson Chevrolet Challenge Cup in New Liskeard.  

Three AA Northern Ontario hockey teams – West Ferris, Temiscaming Shores and Kapuskasing - battled for the gold.

The Trappers started off the tournament with a 5-0 loss against Temiscaming Shores Puckhounds Friday morning, but later in the day bounced back to pull out a 3-0 win over the Kapuskasing Ice Hawks.

The Trappers were back in action Saturday where they won a close match-up 2-1 against the hometown Puckhounds.  

Game four ended in a 2-2 draw between the Trappers and Kapuskasing Ice Hawks.

That tie allowed the Trappers get a bye into the championship game Sunday afternoon against Temiscaming Shores.

After three periods of hockey it was a 1-1 tie with Patrick Etmanski scoring the lone goal. Sam Mitchell and Drew Spencer were awarded with the assists.

The game went into overtime with a 3 on 3 match-up.

With still no winner, both teams played a second period of overtime with a 2 on 2 match-up.

Etmanski was able to sneak the goal by the Puckhounds netminder to win the game and capture gold in the tournament final.  

The team includes Austin Presseault, Ben Franz, Brandon Barker, Cameron MacDonald, Carter Paterson, Drew Spencer, Ethan McLean, Katherine Herron, Kyle D'Amour, Liam Blake, Nick Cote, Will McCharles, Patrick Etmanski, Ryan Marsh, Sam Mitchell, Spencer Boulet, William Waugh-Monette. Coaches are Stephen Mitchell, Joey McCharles, Randy Franz and trainer Mark Spencer.
