The Canadore Panthers Men's and women's volleyball teams host their home openers this weekend at the Education Centre Gym when they take on the Niagara Knights and the Mohawk Mountaineers on November 23rd and 24th respectively.

The Lady Panthers, currently 0-4, are in the hunt for their first win against the Niagara Knights that are 4-1. They will play at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, November 23rd.

The men’s game will follow at 8:00 p.m. In anticipation of the game, the women’s team captain, Sophie Rocheleau believes the team has to come into the opener with a positive attitude.

“Just have fun!” Rocheleau said.

“We always play at such a better level when we’re excited.”

This past weekend, the men’s team was able to battle back against the Sheridan Bruins after losing the first set, to win the next three for their first win of the season. That leaves the Panthers with a 1-2 record early in the season. That 1-2 record ties them for third place in the central west division, and they will be looking to take over sole possession of third when they take on the Mohawk Mountaineers (1-0) on Saturday, November 24 at 7:00 p.m.

Panthers men’s head coach Mike Smith is looking forward to the home opener weekend.

“We have worked on a lot of offensive strategies and feel very confident in the way the team has gelled in the last few weeks,” said Smith.

The men's game will start immediately after the women’s game which begins at 5:00 p.m.
