North Bay Nugget Sports Editor Ken Pagan is a National Pond Hockey Champion as the Barrie Theta TTS Bruins captured the National title at the Canadian Pond Hockey Championships this weekend in Huntsville.

The Bruins defeated the defending champion Rink Rake Greybeards 14-11 in the tournament final which will be broadcast February 24th on TSN.

The tournament featured 104 men's teams and 40 women's teams. The Bruins went 9-0 on the weekend, including 5-0 in the round robin and four straight sudden death playoff wins Sunday.

Pagan was recruited to play for the Barrie based team for last year's Canadian Pond Hockey Championship where the Bruins finished second.

The Bruins will now head to the World Pond Hockey Championships in two weeks in Plaster Rock, N.B. and represent Canada at the U.S. Pond Hockey Championships in Minnesota next winter.

The Bruins club also captured the Northern Ontario title at the event in Haileybury on January 11th - 13th and by virtue of that victory the National Champs have also won the right to play in North Bay's Canadian Pond Hockey Face-Off February 23rd, 24th and 25th.
