Aerialist Steve Omischl collected the 30th world medal of his career with a bronze medal in the Freestyle FIS World Cup competition in Chanchun, China on Saturday.

The North Bay native started the season with an impressive gold medal win in the opening event on Friday. However, Omischl was disappointed that the medal on Saturday was bronze instead of silver.

“I’m not happy and I’m not disappointed,” said the 29-year-old.

Holding a big lead after his opening quad-twisting triple somersault, Omischl didn’t have the landing he wanted for his easier second jump.

Landing in a deep squat, Omischl admitted, “I came up a little bit heavy, so I didn’t sell my landing as well as I could have.”

In the overall men’s aerials standings for 2007-08, Omischl leads with 160 points following the season’s first two events.
