SAULT STE. MARIE, ON - The Widdifield Wildcats may not have been able to defend their NDA hockey title but that didn't stop them from capturing the NOSSA AAA hockey crown with a 2-1 win over the St. Basil's Saints at the John Rhodes Community Centre on Wednesday.

Greg Lecappelain and Mike Wilkinson scored first period goals to pace the Wildcats.

It's the first NOSSA crown for the Wildcats who were defeated by the Franco Cite Patriotes in the NDA best-of-three final series on Sunday.

The Wildcats will prepare for the OFSAA AAA hockey championships which take place March 23rd to 26th in St. Catharines.

Bears prevail

In Sudbury, the St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Bears girls hockey team punched their ticket to the OFSAA 'AAA' girls hockey championships with a 6-1 win over Widdifield in the NOSSA final on Wednesday.

The OFSAA girls event will take place in Ottawa this year on March 23rd - 26th.
