Close to 100 skaters from across Northern Ontario will take part in a regional qualifying figure skating competition at Memorial Gardens on November 2nd and 3rd.

The top four competitors in most categories will go on to compete in the BMO Skate Canada Challenges, the qualifying competition for the BMO Canadian Figure Skating Championships and BMO Skate Canada Junior Nationals.

“The Local Organizing Committee and the skating community are delighted to have the support of BMO Financial Group, said local organizing Chair Kathy Mathieu.

"This is the 8th year that the BMO Financial Group is the title sponsor of the Skate Canada Sectionals which is significant in that BMO Financial Group’s support means additional funding is available to help offset the cost of staging this competition.

"Figure skating is part of the fabric of Canada, and since 1997 BMO Financial Group has been a proud supporter of skating in this country, from grassroots to elite programs. These championships will allow skaters to showcase their skills and we hope you'll join us in celebrating their achievements," said Nicole Audet, Branch Manager of the local BMO Financial Group.

In addition to supporting Skate Canada Sectional competitions, BMO Financial Group sponsorship opportunities include the BMO Figure Skating Canadian Championships, the BMO Skate Canada Challenges, CanSkate and the Skate Canada National Team.

Competition begins Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. with the official opening ceremonies at 7:00 p.m. Competition finishes up Saturday evening at approximately 9:30 p.m. Tickets for this event are available at the Memorial Gardens arena ticket box office at 100 Chippewa Street West, North Bay, ON.

Further information and a schedule can be obtained via the Skate Canada Northern Ontario Section website at www.scno.net click on Events/Competitions or by calling Memorial Gardens arena at 474-3770.
