The North Bay North Stars special needs hockey team raced through their Coach4Food practice and added another 1,332 pounds to Tom Hedican's 2009 program. Sponsored by Dale and Mary Lynn (Hedican) Hall and Police Chief Paul Cook and wife Karen, the North Stars have now pushed this year's total to 6,946 pounds.

With Coach4Food closing in on 3.5 tons, the campaign to fill the shelves of the North Bay Food Bank has just two weeks left to break last year's record of 60,482 pounds, or 30 tons. Coach4Food was inspired by rock star Bruce Springsteen's work with food banks in Canada and the U.S. and will wrap up Dec. 23.
