North Bay Pool team 3rd at Worlds

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - The 29th Annual VNEA World Championships were held this past week in Las Vegas, Nevada.
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - The 29th Annual VNEA World Championships were held this past week in Las Vegas, Nevada. Two teams represented Partners Pool Leagues at this prestigious event, which included teams and players from a number of countries including Australia, Spain and Germany to name a few.

Fab Four was the big winner for North Bay, placing 3rd out of 80 teams in the Women’s Regular Division. Team members included Wendy Stone, Melody Parfitt, Tanya Aultman and Cindy Laplante. This team had already won the Ontario Provincial title for the past 2 years and proved they were ready for the world stage. Fab Four went through the tournament without a loss until their 7th match. They then rebounded to win their next two matches before losing last night to Minnesota in the semi final match, finishing the tournament with an amazing 8 wins and 2 losses.

Fab Four defeated teams from Ohio, Montana, Edmonton, Sarnia, Wyoming, Calgary and Iowa. Their only two losses of the tournaments were against The Knuckle Knockers from Minnesota who went on to become the VNEA World Champions.

Also representing Partners was Creative Impressions with players Ron Laplante, Shawn Gustafson, Darren Corsten, John Murphy, Steve Mallory and Jean Marc Dupuis. They competed in the Men’s regular division and tied for 97th out of 388 teams, finishing with two wins and three losses.

A number of North Bay players also competed in the singles events and did very well. Darren Corston tied for 49th out of 602 players in the Men’s regular division. In the Women’s singles event, teammates Wendy Stone, Melody Parfitt and Tanya Aultman all tied for 33rd spot in their first appearance at this major event. There were 168 women entered in the singles events.
