The North Bay Minor Peewee AAA team which is playing a spring schedule got its first taste of tournament action on the weekend at the Little Senators Tournament in Ottawa.

The locals started off the tourney with a pair of wins and a tie, finishing second in their division after round robin play, which included a victory over the Ottawa Little Senators 4-2; a team run by former Ottawa Senators president Randy Sexton and a 4-0 shutout against Cornwall.
The North Bay squad lost their playoff opener, falling 7-2 to a AAA team based out of the Collingwood/Barrie region. While the playoff loss was disappointing, head coach Randy Edmonds was still very pleased with what he saw on the weekend.

“It was a humbling experience for the players and coaches but a great start to the spring all things considered,” said Edmonds who only put the team together two weeks ago and had played only one game as a team before the start of the Ottawa Tourney.

Josh Storie led the North Bay Peewee AAA squad offensively with three goals on the weekend.

Edmonds now will try and prepare his club for another spring tournament which takes place next month.

“The McDonalds Tournament in Toronto (June 10th) will be a real test as we will play a lot of teams from the GTHL and a few American teams.”
